  1. “When my wife realized he was in the apartment, she came running out of our bedroom and into the living room and shouts, “Dan, it’s you!!! I’ve been following you on the internet for a couple of years!!!!!'””

    And your daughter is still talking to your wife?

    Benson, that is too much. I think you’ll have to bring your wife out to one of these gatherings, if she’s up to it. She sounds like a pip.

  2. Biff and all;

    I give my daughter’s present boyfriend big points for surviving his initial meeting with my wife. Let me explain.

    My daughter knew her present boyfriend in college, but they didn’t date at the time. However, she kept in touch with him via Facebook. One day she showed his picture to my wife on the compeute terminal with some comment to the effect of “Isn’t this guy cute?”.

    Forward a couple of years, and they start dating. My daughter, knowing that my wife is fully capable of a “highly embarassing parent antic”, kept him away from us for a couple of months. Well, one weekend he picked her up at our place, and he had to go the bathroom. So, she brings him up to our apartment. I met him first, said a few words, and went back to watching TV. When my wife realized he was in the apartment, she came running out of our bedroom and into the living room and shouts, “Dan, it’s you!!! I’ve been following you on the internet for a couple of years!!!!!'” My daughter wanted to die right on the spot. Dan looked dazed and confused.

  3. The “keyed garden access” discussion in the COTD threat makes me wonder if anyone knows what the deal is with the “community” garden behind one of the LICH buildings on the corner of Henry & Amity Streets in Cobble Hill. It looks like the garden was extracted from LICH at some point in exchange for permission for LICH to build/expand elsewhere. Unlike the Pacific Street garden, however, only one woman appears to have a key to the Amity Street garden, and only she and her cronies appear to plant there and sit and enjoy it (for which there are “coincidentally” only 3 chairs). Anyone?

  4. hey folks. anybody work downtown manhattan and have a suggestion for a good place for a fairly large afterwork drinks gathering? besides stone street. thanks in advance! (work blocked review websites. painful)

  5. …so, how many are believing me now about the healthcare debacle being rammed through congress as we speak.

    surely we can all agree that without addressing the malpractice insurance industry problems and tort law reform, there is no real healthcare reform.

    and I still stand by my statement;
    of the 47 million “uninsured”
    20 million have a yearly income enough to purchase insurance
    9 million already have coverage through medicaid
    7 million are not citizens of this nation
    3.5 million are people (including children) who qualify for
    medical coverage if they would take the time to apply for it.

    the numbers above are reported time and again by independent resources who have gone over the “uninsured” numbers reported by the US census bureau. By the way, the President has recently folded the Census Bureau into the Executive branch or something to that effect. That’s not a good thing because the census numbers are used to make policy. It sounds more and more like Hugo Chavez a running successful seminars on how to become a two bit dictator and Obama is taking notes.
