Jerome Ave in the Bronx used to have great bakeries – I’m with Biff. I love the old fashioned ones better than the new chi-chi ones. I remember one or two down in Carroll Gardens but it seems a lot more have come up along Court St. since I left (the nerve!)
DIBS, when it comes freebie food hand-outs, there’s no such thing as calling shotgun for exclusive rights. It’s he/she who shoves & maintains optimal position for the freebies, gets the freebies. if not, stare at the crumbs on the ground and regret you didn’t push more aggressively
My great grandfather had a bakery in Glens Falls back in the 20s & 30s. I heard that they smuggled alcohol from Canada in grain sacks during Prohibition.
Caputo’s is the one I was thinking of.
