  1. No Winthrop – I haven’t, but that sounds like a fun time. Is it every Friday, or just a couple times a month like those parties at the Met?

I’ve been trying to find cheap things to do around the city this summer, as the McCarren Pool parties were rudely taken away.

  2. dh – have you been to the friday night music events at the whitney? pay-as-you-wish on friday nights for museum entry and the concert is free once you’re in. i haven’t gone yet but it looks promising…

  3. Gem –

    Ya it’s 30 bucks.

I agree – I can’t believe how big they’ve blown up (Album of the year in Rolling stone!?!) – and they are definitely not good live either.

Figured I would support the boys from the nabe – and enjoy the PP Bandshell (which is an amazing venue)

  4. dave – is phoenix garden still in midtown east? i remember when it was in that alleyway in chinatown. yum. making a puttanesca sauce and polenta for lunch right now. yum.

carrollgardened – the “guido” boys at downtown flooring supplies seem to be all straight.

mopar – agreed on crackheads. they are always hoovering the floor looking for lost bits.

  5. If its an oil base stain you could use a dish towel (which will be ruined by its sacrifice)and you could dip it in whatever thinner they recommend for the stain (look on the back). Just use small amounts until you get the worst of the gloppy stuff off. Let it dry and then decide if you want to put on another coat or what. But don’t slather on the stain- thin coats are better than one thick coat. And I know this how, you ask? Because I never take my own good advice 🙂

  6. No demini, it was the Smilers place, the corner bodega with the hot & cold buffet lines….ABSOLUTELY awful. From now on I order from the real places…Grand Szechuan on 2nd Ave and Our Place Shanghai on 55th…both of those are really excellent.

This Smilers place is off my list for anything now. Also, they were charging $2.50 for a quart of milk which I believe is above the legal price.
