  1. Astoria is real old school. Every time I want to do anything that requries a signature, I have to wait while they check in some old file drawers for my 20-year-old signature card, which is actually alphabetized under my wife’s last name, which I have to explain every time. A real pain when you need to use a different branch from where the card is. I’ve tried to explain computers, acrobat, intranets, etc. but they don’t seem to have anyone that speaks that language. But at least they didn’t tank.

  2. For those few of you PLUSAs who are still into renovation porn, see below. This guy wrote a great and funny book about his reno of a faded mansion in Akron. Every time I go up on my roof, I think of one of his book’s catch phrases, “I will not die a cartoon character’s death.” Now he’s got pix up on his site. Check it out (I hope Donatella’s reading).

  3. M4L – WOW thanks! – yes we both have accounts with Chase
great to know – I will go open up an account at another bank

hmm maybe I will try TD – I personally like Astoria federal as well – really old school

  4. what to do with the $$$, I leave that to the PRO’s. On the 250k FDIC limit, those are per banking institution. 2 diff accts at the same bank doesn’t mean you get 250k protection on each acct – just 250k for you a a married couple.

btw, I have to say I like canadian on this. when citibank was crapping out, we moved most of the $$$ to TD Bank – trust they have lower risk of collapse vs. US banks

  5. well – at first I need to deposit these checks into regular checking accounts and then take 80% and move it to CD’s am guessing

Dibs – would like to do a 6month or 1 year jumbo CD as we would like to buy a new place in a year….
