  2. ENY, after growing up during a time when the South, to me, was the Klan, people getting hosed, beat up and lynched, I never developed any desire to go further south than Washington DC. As a child, a white Southern accent would send me under the table in fear. That feeling didn’t go away until college and beyond, when I met some wonderful folks from the South, and realized that people are people, some good, some bad, accents and origins notwithstanding. That said, I still haven’t been down south, except for a layover in the Miami airport, but it’s more because I don’t like hot, humid weather. I would like to go to the Asheville area of North Carolina, as I’d love to go to the Biltmore estate, and visit all of the crafts and antiques markets in the area.

  3. Yeah, I didn’t make it down last year but I usually get to at least one or two SEC / Big 12 / ACC games. The SEC is the best both for football and atmosphere but I don’t know as many alums as the other two conferences.

ENY- glad you’re back unscathed from the south. My brother used to be stationed in Georgia with the Air Force- My parents were terrified of driving through the south (the south was none too welcoming to Jews) and that feeling of dislike and dread has never left me when traveling there.
