  1. sixyears, these 11th graders all need to be sent back to re-learn the English language, and to get their history correct. I couldn’t imagine anyone writing stuff like that when I was in 11th grade. This is very sad on so many levels.

  2. Yesterday 11th graders across NY state took the US History and Geography Regents Exam. The grading began today (a truly mind-numbing experience – this morning I read 90 essays on the same topic). For your entertainment I’m posting a composite essay of sentences culled from student essays on the June 2006 Regents. Keep in mind that the vast majority of essays (90% or so) are perfectly acceptable and normal, but then there are kids who crack under pressure of an exam they have to pass to graduate. They also have little time to edit their work (and some don’t use the time they have). If you want to see the questions, they’re in the June 2006 US History
exam: http://www.nysedregents.org/testing/socstre/regentushg.html (pg. 9 for the thematic essay and 10-18 for the DBQ). With that in mind, enjoy:

I was once on the front page of the New York Times cleaning pumpkins. FDR was a man in a wheelchair who wouldn’t expose himself in public. Soldiers were on posters that looked like a real man – who wouldn’t want to be a real man? A woman his holding a wrencher seeing his man
go to war. Mass media has made the intangibles in hand’s reach. Many had a way to show others that these things are happening it’s not a joke. Adults, kids dieing every second because of things like killing them, beating them, locking them up in jail or just killing them in ways they shouldn’t be in, etc. In the year 1980 they described a
quick teabag that which you drop in water and stir. In a few years there won’t be a slim person known to man.TV helps make decisions. Media today has got so crazy there are over a thousand different channels. We watch the weather to know what to wear, the radio to find out the hottest music, and most of us still don’t know how to
make cornbread. Without the media, JFK wouldn’t have won, people wouldn’t have protested Vietnam, women wouldn’t have gone out to work in factories, and Harold and Kumar would never have gone to White Castle.

Turning points in history are called turning points. A turning point is is a major event in any time- kind of like the climax in a good novel, the high point of a good discussion, or hitting the winning home run in a Mets game. Throughout history there has been a lot of events that lead to different and major events. Both good and bad
changes are good. Since I was born, there haven’t been many turning points in American history. For the most part, the President choking on a pretzel and the Vice President shooting a man is about it. After the Declaration of Independence people gained the right to vote, especially African-Americans. People had to go to court to make the
Declaration of Independence come true. World War I was caused by the Boston Tea Party. Before the women’s movement women stayed home and worshipped their husbands. The flip floppers were women who didn’t cover themselves anymore. In 1929 people had no money and started killing themselves, which hurt the economy greatly. We were island
hopping and then the Japanese decided to get tuff so we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Then they surprise attacked Pearl Harbor. Most Americans saw WWII as necessary after a mean trick like Pearl Harbor. The real hit on Japan was a Fat Man and Chubby Boy. Germany, Italy, and Japan lost WWII and their world power rankings. JFK won the 1960 election because Nixon used a product called five o’clock
shadow. The change from 9/11 is that we have a new term called 9/11. Once stated by a wise member of the human race, if left unanalyzed, history is doomed to repeat itself. During the history of the world many incidents have occurred that people wished they could take back but they can’t. In conclusion I can justifiably say that
major historical events can be referred to as turning points.

  3. Adding to Housewives chatter, I was literally encased in a nearly paralyzed pile of horror and delight during the final supper there. I think my jaw was on the couch corner until I felt spittle dribbling out and promptly clamped it shut.

And was it just me, or was anyone else baffled by the fact that several of the women seemed concerned that the children leave the room… not 2 minutes after Teresa had announced how sore she was from being banged silly after her “bubbie” job?

My GOD. And her husband appeared to be grinning and drooling like a man in heat as he tried to calm her a bit following her total meltdown. I wouldn’t be surprised if their 4th bundle of joy was conceived that night in the restaurant bathroom. Brrrrr.

  4. oooooh I lurve Gabriel Byrne. I guess I need to hang out in BH more. I like Lili Taylor too. I guess they live in the neighborhood? I was on the UWS yesterday and saw Hoda Kotb. Yup. A-lister. heh. Like a dork though, I kept staring at her trying to figure out where I knew her from. By the time I realized it was from the TV, I already looked like a wacko. sigh.

  5. THL/CH
    OMG!!! – where to start
first off how inapproriate is Danielle on SO many different levels? oy vey! – showing nude pics of herself to her daughters was beyonce bizarre. then the book ordeal at the table. I think Jaqueline never should have sided with danielle. she never should have called dina a liar – you guys are family – you have to stick with them. at least her husband seems nice and sensible – I thought he acted with class. Teresa lost it – hwoever not sure why other than I would be pissed too if this horror show showed up to my party and took over with her attention seeking self to confront the other ladies at my expense..literally. wow! – I can’t wait for the reunion. I have insider dirt as my friend’s client actually lives in Wayne NJ and knows the Manzo’s and admits that Danielle doesn’t live in Franklin lakes, but in Wayne where she is now dating the police chief there and EVERYONE in town hates her – hold on lemme email her for the gossip again!
