Rob,
Someone at that wage level would not pay that much in taxes.
That said, I agree with you about minimum wage levels (one of the few issues where I am not on the Conservative / Republican side of things!).
Oh, and I love lots of fast food. Try not to indulge too much though. Also a lot depends on the individual restaurant – some McDonald’s are great, some are disgusting.
“self check out lines is the most F’ed up concept, next to yogurt”
You have a LOOOOONG “hate” list, man.
I dislike long lines and crappy service as much as anyone. But really, what class of person do you expect to find working full-time at a CVS, grocery store, etc.? These people are not among society’s highest achievers. Some are students working their way up and others are down-on-their-luck types who will segue to better things. But I’d be willing to bet most of the rest (and the majority) are high-school drop-outs and wastrels. You should be glad they can even use the register.
M4L: i <3 wendy’s, but i was mad when they turned the dollar menu into the “value” menu. i.e. prices for a baked potato, chili, etc went from 99 cents to 1.09 to 1.29, to 1.59, and now 1.69. :-/
all in a matter of like a year.
also, at fast food places, the meals are actually no less expensive than if you went to a fauxdega or deli and bought a healthy meal.
get a full meal @ mickey d’s these days, 10 bux. you could just get something better for that price anywhere else. sometimes i totally believe places like mcdonalds, BK,etc lure poor people in and take advantage. workers, and patrons btw.
fyi, i think im gonna steal one of the new potted plants mcd’s put on the corner of 4th ave and 1st. but there are lots of cameras.. hmmm
*rob*
Yes, THL…I managed a few NAPA auto parts stores after college and rule number 1 was that you’d get fired if you kept talking to the other employees behind the counter while there were customers there.
m4l, it’s not about the beef, its the sauce flavor that I like with the Whopper.
Rob when I was young I worked as a cashier in a grocery store and then as a front end (cashier) manager at that same store. We’d have been fired if we acted like that. Seriously. They were pretty strict and we weren’t exactly making a ton of money either.
I think if you agree to do a job do it the best you can.No one is forcing you to be there. If you think you can do better than go and get a better job.
Fast food burger, McD’s angus burger better than whopper.
best fast food chain stores are those high end roy rogers or arby’s (forget which one exactly) I saw in Virginia. Super high end renovation, staffed by all these eastern europe exchange students or something like that, fancy menu,… wonder why we never see them here in NYC
Honestly Rob, I don’t go too often. It just happened to be across from the repair shop and we were starving.
I’d just be happy if stores banned cashiers from having cell phones at the register. There’s nothing more annoying than having a cashier pull out their cell phone to respond to a text while you are bagging your groceries or getting the change out of your bag.

Feel free to rewrite that sentence.
Biff, yeah, meant snootier but snottier makes sense too (ie they acting as if they got more snot up their noses)

For a fast food burger though, nothing beats a Whopper.
