  1. Applebees – not sure if it’s just my local one in Long Island employing Sasquatch, but there have been very few times I’ve gone there I haven’t found hair in my food. And not little hairs, big long ones – which typically results in my sending my food back and drinking the rest of the meal.

  2. ENY…Vetri is expensive and hard to get into without a reservation but maybe not on a Wednesday. They have a sister restaurant north on Broad Street that is just as good but more casual…Osteria.

LeVirtu is truly excellent. It’s in South Philly on Passyunk almost where it meets Broad St. It’s more casual and its not expensive and I believe the food rivals Vetri.
If she goes make sure they get an order of the truffled mushroom pappardelle.

  3. When I went to the first adult session of NASA Space Camp I met people who had never been to a restaurant that wasn’t a franchise. I’ve never been to Olive Garden, Applebee’s, TGIF, etc. – but if you were raised out of NYC or other major metro area, your tastes were probably set by that kind of cuisine so whatever tastes good to you tastes good to you.

  4. THL…that must be the old place I was talking about last week when you or someone else mentioned Carmine’s. The waiters there are all old men with white shirts and black ties and there are tacky murals of Italy on the wall?????

  5. applebee has been so so for me. Chilli is better. miss benegan’s. can’t believe the landlord wouldn’t let me take over the lease of a benegan’s location nearby work here in NJ

  6. “ENY, let me know if you ever go to Philly.”

Thanks, Dave, I will. I do have business there from time to time and take clients out, so I’d love any recommendations. Actually, now that I think of it, someone who works for me is going tomorrow (like me, she loves GOOD Italian food). I’ll make sure she considers LeVirtu. If you have any others you care to mention, I’d apreciate it.

  7. “okay i am SO just having a bowl of brownie batter tonight for dinner.”

O.k…you should SO not just have a bowl of brownie batter for dinner. Raw eggs can be dangerous.

WHy don’t you cook the brownies while you eat a real meal.

ENY, I’m with you. Why is it so f*&*^ing difficult to find a proper spaghetti carbonara in NYC????? And NO, it’s not made with fettucini or linguini.”

I’m with you too. There is ONE place that I know makes it really well. It’s on front street in the Seaport across the street from Stella Maris and next door to the original Carmines. I never remember the name of the joint but they do an EXCELLENT carbonara.
