  1. “i only found out and became aware as of a few weeks ago that brooklyn and queens are of the same land mass as long island.”

OK, people have to stop making fun of me. Rob, are you effing serious? how dumb are you? have you ever looked at a map. jeeeezus. your stupidity shocks me in a myriad of ways.

  2. SEE how much better “a lot” sounds? hells, you can even make it more high brow and just say many. just dont say myriad. dumbest word in the history of the english language.

  3. speaking of bridges. i only found out and became aware as of a few weeks ago that brooklyn and queens are of the same land mass as long island. wtf? that was never taught in any geography classes. (actually im not even sure if i ever really had a geography class proper), but still. i only noticed this after someone mentioned it somewhere, then i started paying close attention to the weather maps on the news and i was like whoa, that’s true. im not sure what land mass brooklyn was part of, i guess i never really thought about it. it’s weird when you find out crazy stuff like that. it also skeeves me out a bit that i live on a long island.

  5. When I lived on the UES and was coming in from LaGuardia, the taxi drivers would always get pissed off when I told them to take Hoyt, Crescent and the 59th St. Bridge as opposed to letting them take the TriBorough and the FDR. Sheeesh.

  6. Today’s FGVOTD is courtesy of Simon and Garfunkel and is a tribute to the Queensboro Bridge (aka 59th Street Bridge), which recently turning 100 years old.

A couple of notes on the bridge from Wiki:

In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway traverse the bridge on their way from Long Island to Manhattan. “The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge,” Nick says, “is always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world”.

The bridge is displayed during the opening credits of the television series Taxi, as a cab (driven by series star Tony Danza) drives across it.
