  1. EY- I posted on that thread just now. They aren’t homophobic – they believe in a strict interpretation of the bible but they offer services to the needy no matter if they are gay or straight. It’s mostly their hiring practices (I worked for them during the 9-11 recovery, and found most Salvation Army people have been raised in it and many don’t know much about other religions either. I met several who didn’t know what being Jewish meant. But I couldn’t honestly call them homophobic- they certainly would never turn away a needy person based on sexual orientation. They might try to change it,and “save” them, but they don’t hate gays. This is strictly from my experience and conversations with the many that I met.

Man…do I have to go over this AGAIN??

Hey Rob, like you I was surprised at the Salvation Army/anti-gay thing. I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it’s apparently not as cut-and-dried as zinka made it out to be.

Based on what I read there (assuming it’s true), it seems there are anti-gay elements within the Salvation Army. But I’m not sure it’s accurate to call the entire operation “homophobic.”
