  1. “Chicken, it’s the crazy jive terms, slang, etc used in HK that confuses the native mainlanders

Same with Londoners v Scousers (Liverpool) and Geordies (Newcastle). I don’t think there is anywhere as fickle with its slang as HK.

I lived in HK for a while so my accent is good enough to pass for a local. On one trip back someone remarked that I obviously wasn’t from there. I asked whether my accent had slipped since I’d been gone. They said no, just the slang I was using was 2 years out of date!

  2. “The producers must have known”

I’m sure their eyes lit up when they found out. Awesome for the ratings; just like Jon and Kate’s marital woes. Did you see the numbers on their season premiere? Through the roof!

  3. HK & southern China speak mainly Cantonese (many dialects). Northern China, Taiwan and most Singaporeans speak mandarin.

Mandarin is fr more universal than Cantonese.

  4. “BRG, been getting impression ladies are under represented in these gatherings”

M4L, I was thinking it was about even, but looking at the list from the last big gathering, you’re right: it was approximately 25 men and 10 women. Normally, that would be 2.5 men for every 1 women, but given the diverse sexual orientations amongst the PLUSAs, I’m not quite sure exactly how to assess the ratios.

  5. Gem, why would Danielle do this? I’m mortified and horrified for her daughters. This cannot be good. She must have known this would come out. The producers must have known, they must do checks on these folks? Is it all just for ratings? I cannot fathom it.
