  1. bxgrl, gotcha. I came here when I was little and don’t really know my family History as well. Many were killed during Holocaust and my grandfather didn’t really like talking about his past as well.

  2. DH, you might want to check out Anyway Cafe. They have 3 locations and it’s very similar style to Pravda/Vodka Room. They have 3 locations (1 in manhattan, 2 in brooklyn). The Brooklyn ones are much better. Also, free live music (mostly jazz) every night from like 9pm to 1am or so.

  3. Kens- I don’t know except there was some vague mention of problems between him and his father (whom he seems to have disliked ). All my mother know was that my great grandfather was a High Rabbi in Minsk and I wish I could find out more. My mother came from Tolchin/Odessa

  4. I’m not much into the Russian scene. Now if we all want to go to a place down in K-Town swarming with testosterone filled 20-30s Korean guys (and girls too) thenI’m certainly up for that.

  5. As far as Russian themed bars go – I really like Pravda downtown. Not really authentic (owned by McNally of Balthazar/Pastis) – but they have over 100 types of vodka and some russian style food.
