Just a thought- I know people mentioned going to a Cyclones game. We are doing a “First responder” Night at Keyspan on August 14th. the Wall of Remembrance sponsors it and we’ll have a short ceremony at the Wall before the game. i think I can get tickets for $5.00 each so if anyone is interested, please let me know and I can talk to the head of the organization.
Goombah, is a linguistically alteration of “Compare”. Southern Italian dialect, tends to make the ‘c’ into a ‘g’, and vice versa. Likewise, ‘p’ tends to become a ‘b’ and “‘d’ transmutes into a “‘t’ sound, and dropping the last letter is very Neapolitan.
Well, if folks are using the term “Guido” now,it is a new thing. Again, when I was a kid, no one ever used it. Honestly, I never heard the term.
The term Guinea has another origin. It comes from the day when the days when Italians were day-laborers in England. They were paid a guinea. The term “WOP” is American, and it comes from the days when Italians came to these shores “WithOut Papers”, what we would call “undocumented” these days.
