Fort Greene
The Cake Man Raven is officially closed at 708 Fulton Street. He’s operated in that spot for 12 years, but after a rent dispute he’s decided to move elsewhere and open two small shops in Downtown Brooklyn and Harlem. According to the New York Daily News, it’ll take until spring to build out the new stores. Photo by roboppy.

Hurricane Sandy
Businesses are slowly opening after severe damage caused by the hurricane more than one month ago. According to the Village Voice, the 105-year-old Gargiulo’s Restaurant reopened in Coney Island as well as Steve’s Key Lime Pie in Red Hook. Over in Coney, Nathan’s Hot Dogs and popular pizzeria Totonno’s remain closed. Almondine is still closed in Dumbo but its customers have helped out with donations. The Good Fork is still closed in Red Hook but it’s serving food at Park Slope bar Skylark right now. You can see a full list of still-closed restaurants over at Eater. As of yesterday, 70 restaurants were still shuttered throughout New York City.

Elsewhere
In Park Slope, powerHouse on 8th (a sister site to Dumbo’s powerHouse Books) is up and running at 1111 8th Avenue, the old Reel Life space. Also open in Park Slope: a Vietnamese sandwich shop near Lincoln and 7th Avenue called Banhmigos. Prospect Heights Patch profiles a new cafe, bar and comfort food restaurant planned for the large storefront on the corner of Washington Avenue and Bergen Street. The space should open in mid-January. A women’s boutique called Rum & Raisin is gearing up to open in Boerum Hill at 118 Smith Street. A small espresso bar is under construction on Flatbush near Lincoln Road in Prospect Lefferts Gardens and will start serving D’Amico coffee in January. Up in Crown Heights on Nostrand Avenue, a yoga studio opened. And sad news from Williamsburg: Gothamist reports that the music venue and arts space Zebulon is closing after ten years in the neighborhood.
