It’s been common knowledge for the better part of this year that the former Bodegas space at the corner of Clinton and Fulton was by PACC to the folks who already own three places in the neighborhood (Pequena, Moe’s, Maggie Brown and Olea). What’s been less clear is what the new owners planned to do with it. After seeing a candlelit dinner underway on Saturday, we stopped by this morning to confirm that we weren’t imagining things. Sure enough, the new restaurant—called Autour du Monde—is open for business. From a passing glance at the menu we’d see say it’s eclectic French food. For lunch, for example, you can have a Croque Monsieur or a Mediterranean Frittata. Anyone been yet?

  1. I walked by there last night and was surprised to see it. It was completely empty and looked huge. Even more surprised to find out I could have gotten a Waldorf salad along a stretch where I was feeling slightly nervous about the footsteps that were trailing me for several blocks.

  2. I was there on Saturday morning, fairly early in the morning, and everyone was really nice (seems like some French people running the spot), but there were some kinks in the food. Eggs were a bit watery, bland salad, but the potatoes were good. I definitely plan on going back though for dinner, and if people had good brunches there yesterday, they must have worked out their first brunch jitters pretty quickly.

  3. that rumor about union market was nixed some time ago.

they are just about to open a second store on 7th avenue and 13th street in park slope in about 2 weeks.

they won’t be expanding to a third store anytime soon, from what i heard.

  4. Wifey and I ate there last night after walking by and being surprised it was already open. We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and tasty food (Waldorf salad was stellar). I encourage people to support this place, as its success will help expedite revitalization on Fulton.

Later that night I made a pot of red beans and rice and ate the entire thing at home. French restaurant portions are a little petite for me.

Any truth to the Union Market rumors?

  5. I had a nice brunch there yesterday, they told me that they will start with all their publicity from this week, friendly, good food and fair prices, some nice plants in there to warm up the ambiance will be nice at least until it gets filled with costumers!

  6. 11:18 – did you read this rumor on a blog in Brooklynian? That would be great if they moved to that spot! There are already a couple of nice grocers in Ft Greene by the Forte building.
