in reply to your question about recording bugets and advances being seperate? In many cases it is, but in the hip hop world – the lines blur becuase hip hop producers who are sought after becuase they have the name and a rep cost MUCH more. So when Rapper X wants to use Just Blaze on track that will come out of the recording budget, but when the record company intially sets the budget at 500K and now Just Blaze commands 100K for 1 song, then they have to do the rest of the album on the cheap so many times if Rapper X wants to use a hote rapper, the rapper through management and the record company come to an agreement where some of the money will come out of their advance….
Well, better blatant than covert eh?
“What I can’t separate him from is his applauding the death of Yankel Rosenbaum – and as far as I’m concerned Rosenbaum could be anyone. If you applaud murdering innocent people, you’re a meaningless waste of a human being and it negates everything about you.”
What part am I missing??? I don’t think I want to engage certain people hear anymore.
If I write something, it’s called trash.
If I post something from mainstream media, it’s dismissed as “Copy and paste”
If I give my opinion, it’s twisted to make me look bad.
I can’t win and this was a blatant attempt to smear me. Like I said before it’s right there in Black and White…

Someday this war is gonna end…
mshook, I don’t know anything about any of these recording artists vis a vis their lawyers and contracts. My point was more towards them providing a community service to the hundreds of young aspiring rappers, singers, and musicians who look up to these people like they were gods. Wouldn’t it be nice if a god faced a camera or said in a magazine, “Young one, you need to take care of business if you start to make it in this cutthroat business. You need A, B, C, and you need to do this, that, and the other. Don’t waste your money on bling and Kristol and fancy cars. Etc, etc, etc.” That all I want. Gemini10 is right, as well.
Bxgrl never said you applauded the death of Yankel Rosenbaum, what.
Sonny Carson did, whether by word specifically, or by praising those who did, which is the same thing. His interviews at the time are public record. He did do a lot for the community, but even good, when combined with a lot of wrong, becomes obscure. We are all the sum of our words and actions, and for me, Sonny falls short.
And just to make that point again- I mentioned Rosenbaum only because of Carson and what he said. It wasn’t in reference to anything you said and while I will argue with you on many things, I am really apologizing if I put things so that you mistook my meaning.
Gemini, aren’t advance money and recording budget usually separate? Sure, no one should be an idiot and spend like crazy, but that doesn’t justify an 18 point deal, plus the artist is paying back the advance out of THEIR 18 points. Nuts!
