This morning, the new citywide NYC Ferry service set sail, expanding ferry options across the borough and city as a whole. But while there was some fanfare (the mayor was on hand to launch the first set of boats), the day was not without its issues, according to a tipster.

“It’s a disaster (today is day one). People waiting for over an hour and the schedules just aren’t even being honored. It’s a joke,” the tipster said in email from the North Williamsburg stop.

“They got rid of the old boats and the old line and the old schedule. It’s all new boats and nobody has a clue what’s going on,” he continued. “According to the staff, one of the boats went rogue today and messed everything up. People flipping out.”

Also, minor detail, but the new horn sound on these boats is horrific — sounds like a wailing child,” he added.

On Twitter, other riders also voiced similar concerns.

NYC Ferry was not immediately available for comment.

The NYC Ferry replaces and expands on the old East River Ferry. It will open in two phases. The second phase, due in 2018, will expand service to the Upper East Side and the Bronx.
