Cafe and natural wine bar Montage Brooklyn will soon open its doors on Patchen Avenue, bringing flavors of the founders’ home state of New Mexico to Bed Stuy through treats including green chile cheese croissants and blueberry corn masa muffins.

Montage Brooklyn will be the second Montage location for owners Symone Lucero and Candice Orwat, who opened the original location in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Brooklyn hangout will take over 210 Patchen Avenue, the site of the beleaguered Cafe Tucum, this spring, the founders said in a note posted to the building’s window.

“This magical corner will soon be a coffee shop, a natural wine bar, and a space for you to stop and take a breath or have a laugh,” the note reads. “It’s been a joy meeting some of ya’ll already. Your kindness and your energy are why we’re here.”

The note added the pair are looking for “musicians for the evenings, baristas who love humans and anyone who wants to collaborate or has a vision for this corner.”

Lucero told Brownstoner the duo had plans to open a cafe in New York and fell in love with Brooklyn’s vibrancy on recent trips to the city. Through a friend who lives in Bed Stuy, they heard about the availability of the space on the corner of Patchen Avenue and Macon Street.

She said the space checked off all the founders’ essential must-haves as well as all the smaller elements, including floor-to-ceiling windows, brick walls, hardwood floors and “a history we could embrace and add our own energy to.”

Montage Brooklyn will have a full espresso menu and create monthly specials with house made syrups and seasonal local ingredients, Lucero said, as well as offer an array of open-faced toasts that range from classics such as avocado to banh mi toast with red wine and ghost pepper pickled eggs.

“We have pastries baked in house such as green chile cheese croissants and blueberry corn masa muffins, all with ingredients from our home state of New Mexico,” Lucero said. The evening menu will feature small plates including charcuterie, olives and tinned fish.

Lucero said the plan is to open the cafe on one of the last two weekends in March.

Editor’s note: The cafe changed its name from Montage Brooklyn to Early Yves.
