That article about the construction worker coalitions is fascinating (“This Hammer for Sale”). The whole union/non-union labor issue in this city seems so opaque to me; regardless of the huge amounts of money to be earned in construction (or maybe because of it?), the construction labor market is really closely linked to the city’s informal economy… Nothing seems to be entirely above board, does it.
