Yesterday’s reveal was Cellar’s, today’s is L’Epicerie! The new place will be a Paris-meets-Brooklyn concept called BaguetteAboudit. It will likely serve a Choice-like assortment of high-quality, moderately-priced items like soups, salads and sandwiches in addition to fresh bread; there will be additional hot foods at night as well. It will open at 7 a.m. and run through the prime dinner hours seven days a week.

  1. I agree, M4L. Either name is fine…I don’t think people really care if the food is good.

I was just saying that a French name is more pretentious than a more Brooklyn oriented name, if some people really want to have this asinine discussion about not going there because of the name. I shouldn’t have fed the troll. 🙂

  2. Great news – bad name, but who cares. At least the space will be reactivated after 2+ years of sitting vacant.

What I really miss are the $40 BYOB family-style dinners that L’Epicerie used to have. I’ve hosted several parties there and Jean-Battiste even offered his kitchen for me to cook in…never did get a chance to do that and I’m regretting it now.

Hope this new place offers up food that isn’t overpriced, and considers doing those family-style dinners too.

By the way Beny’s on Fulton is AWESOME. Support those guys!

  3. 11217, ft greene does have a ton of french speaking residents. not sure why the big concentration. anyhow, it makes sense to have a french name – ie I dont expect people to complain about all those chinatown shops with the chinese names.

  4. you all need to get a life. seriously. not to mention a little bit of perspective.

I wish these guys the best of luck and heartily welcome them to the neighborhood!

They deserve our respect and thanks for starting a new business in our neighborhood instead of pointless ridicule from a bunch of people sitting on their asses and posting blog comments all day. Who gives a damm what the name is.

  5. Randolph, I point you to the German beer garden on Fulton, whose name I cannot pronounce. Der Schwar… anything that an American can’t spell or pronounce, basically.

I liked L’Epicerie, this sounds like a good replacement.

Although Beny’s is now serving to go food too and they are closer to my house. Still, I think the neighborhood can support two French delis.
