We were tipped off that La Taqueria, on 7th Avenue between Lincoln and Berkeley, has been shuttered by the Health Department. DOH has been making its rounds around New York restaurants, and we’ve seen more and more “grades” popping up on store windows. Guess this place didn’t pass. GMAP

hahah while that is totally funny, it’s totally not true tho. but i agree, if you are looking for a totally sterile restaurant, you will never find one.

    *rob*

  2. I ate at La Taqueria (the take-out side) almost once a week in the 6 years I lived in the North Slope. Never got sick.

That which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I agree with BroooklynCouch. Who got hit the hardest by Swine Flu? The GenX/Y-ers whose mommies made them use hand-sanitizer every 2 minutes and didn’t let them play in dirt.

  3. The first half of my adult life was spent running restaurants and much of my youth was spent on a dairy farm.

Suffice to say that the food that eventually makes it to your table does not take a sterile path to get there.

    Not even close.

  4. Cafe Du Nord has made the Ozzie’s on 5th avenue and Carroll irrelevant?

    You’re clueless.

If you meant the Ozzie’s on 7th and Lincoln (which is actually close to Cafe Regular Du Nord) then you might be correct except for the fact that it’s packed every day.

Rachel’s sucks compared to La Taqueria, in my personal opinion.

  5. Being from L.A. which has been doing this for like 20yrs, you realize the grade doesnt necessarily have anything to do with food safety, at all. And sometimes lots to do with payoffs or sign theft.

  6. When it comes to restaurants, I believe in conscious ignorance. Tacqueria is such a great place. I want conscious ignorance about it. Ozzie’s? The place has kind of become irrelevant since Café Du Nord opened.

And remember: lack of exposure to bacteria is probably more dangerous than exposure to it…that’s kind of the same premise behind the rise of kinds who can’t handle nuts.

    GIMME CONSCIOUS IGNORANCE RE RESTAURANTS!
