I’m waiting for these wonderful little places to meet and eat open up in my section of Crown Heights. We just got Applebee’s and considering it’s a chain, it’s not bad. At least it’s a nice family place where they put your food on the table on a real plate and with real flatware in stead of takeout plastic. Not that the food in many of the area restaurants isn’t good, because it is- but it’s fun to eat dinner in a restaurant in the nabe once in awhile.
There’s a new pastry shop that just opened on the corner across Fulton, opposite them, and what looks to be a very cute little place on Nostrand (betw Atlantic and pacific)but I haven’t checked them out yet.
I just got back from Choice – I was there at about 3:45 and it was PACKED. The Bugaboo brigade along with students and ‘freelance types’ like yours truly.
Anon 4:21- Choice is in Clinton Hill on the corner of Grand and Lafayette,. Tillies is in Ft Greene on the corner of Vanderbilt and DeKalb. K-Dog, it seems, is in Prospect-Lefferts although I’ve never been there.
Can someone tell us where these places are?
I think what makes Tillies so popular is not necessarily the coffee(which I think is average but not bad)is the large space they have. Pillow Cafe is cool but also much smaller.
In Fort Greene, Pillow Cafe on Myrtle is fantastic; much better than Tillie’s.
Is Choice the cafe in the picture? Which cafe is in the picture above.
i’ve stopped going to tillies. it is rediculous that they don’t open before 8, they sell coffee! also, they don’t make very good coffee. after my 3rd cold latte, i stopped giving them a second chance.
choice, on the other hand, looks promising.
still wish someone would open a reasonably priced produce place.
with choice, it may be faster to call the order in ahead of time. i heart choice.
Tillies is great although I have not lived in the neighborhood long enough to know what kind of influence its had on the neighborhood.
I’m alway hoping they’ll change tehir hours though and open at 7 instead of 8. I think they miss some people on their way to work because of it.
