Juliana’s officially opened in Dumbo today, reported the New York Post, firing off another shot in the pizza war with nearby Grimaldi’s. The new Juliana’s occupies the original Grimaldi’s space with a coal-fired brick oven at 19 Old Fulton Street. Patsy Grimaldi sold his namesake business to Frank Ciolli in 1998, and when Grimaldi’s moved to 1 Front Street, Patsy announced he’d open a new pizza place at the old spot. The opening was delayed due to lawsuits between the two businesses. Gothamist reports that Juliana’s, named after Patsy’s late mother, is markedly different than Grimaldi’s, with a modern look and a fancier menu. They don’t serve slices but they do accept credit cards.
