We reported back in January that Joya, the Thai restaurant with its roots in Cobble Hill, had expansion plans for Fort Greene. Now, notes a tipster, the new Fulton Street location is coming into high resolution: There’s an angled glass facade in place and a menu on the door that looked rather similar to the Court Street one to us. Wonder if they’ll also have a live DJ, which is what the Court Street restaurant offers its late night crowd.

Any idea if outdoor seating is planned?
I love Joya. One of the few places that’s pretty cheap to eat with good size portions and good food. Not big on the DJ thing but still love going there.
The new Joya space looks so small that I was thinking maybe they were expanding into that bodega space as well?
They don’t have a backyard there. This is the longest construction process for a 1,400 SF store ever. Also of note, the bodega on the corner is getting overhauled.
Any word on what is going in next door in the corner space? It looks like another deli, but with one across the street, round the corner and down the block, i was hoping for something more ambitious.
I see they really upped their creativity game with decor and put up the EXACT SAME blue floodlights that are outside Song too. I don’t like those things.
The previous space was small, and trying to see in when I walked by recently, it looks like this space will be pretty small as well – much smaller than Joya and Song, so probably no room for the DJ. I agree Song isn’t great, but I like that its still pretty cheap, and shows you can have a trendy restaurant that you actually want to eat in (rather than just take out from) and not be overpriced. i.e. good design doesn’t have to cost more!
A word of warning to the nearby residents if the new Joya has a back garden–invest in earplugs and a good white noise machine. I would also dispute the “nice owners” comment.
11217, thai is terrible in the hood. Joya will have little trouble getting perceived as big upgrade/addition to the hood
