  1. No, no, no, Bob Marvin, their reporters do not live here. Well, they live in Park Slope and they live on the Upper West Side. Most NYT reporters and editors are in their 50s. They’ve had a hiring freeze for the last couple of years and hire very few young people.

It’s the 20-year-olds who work at the blogs and such who live in Williamsburg, Bushwick, etc.

The staff of the New Yorker is so old and well-compensated, they live in the West Village. Not all of them, of course, but many of them.

  2. Wonderful bit – very, very funny. And I will note that the Times continued through the past couple of days – comparing (non) plowing of my own Butler Street to the Mayor’s street – then even looking at Gregory Place, a truly exotic location. Loved it.

  3. Williams is hysterical. He always talks about how much freedom Jon Stewart has as a comedian, but in reality, he’s just as much a comedian hiding in mainstream news media. Hi throwback, tongue in cheek, 1950s semi-clueless thing is relentless.

  4. @Bob- Srsly. I can’t tell you how funny it is. When we had Park Slope tornado, the street was FILLED with photographers, freelance and staff for local papers. They got there quick because of course they live here. Also funny to listen to NPR, This American Life and WNYC and hear how lazy they are. Every other time they need to do something “remote” (econ experiment with schoolkids, story on competing “Vietnamnese” sandwich [there are, as we know, no actual Vietnamese affiliated with these places] shops, delivery guys coping with Snowpocalypse, etc.) they are in Brooklyn, often Park Slope specifically. This is of course, because they all live here. 15 years ago was the same with the Upper West Side. Liberal thinker in “intellectual” profession (educator, publishing, media), etc.

  5. Really funny!

The real reason, of course, for the NYT’s “discovery” of Brooklyn is simply that many of their reporters now live here.

BTW, I couldn’t help but notice that the Gothamist map of Brooklyn, which left out many brownstone neighborhoods, actually listed mine. That was a surprise; most often, if any brownstone neighborhood is omitted it’s PLG. [Did someone from the Gothamist staff buy a house here recently?]
