This old brick house at 173 Crown Street in Crown Heights hit the market a year ago with Corcoran at an asking price of $799,000; by October the price had been reduced to $649,000. Then early last month, Brown Harris Stevens took over the listing and raised the price back up to $789,000. Last week, the price was reduced again to $739,000. Sounds to us like an offer in the high $600’s would get this done. It’s a charming house. Any takers?

  1. “The main issue that made it a non-starter is that it is 1,600 sf. The basement is really a basement, non-habitable, so shame on BHS for listing the house as 2,400sf.” – shows 2400sq ft on propshark too so I’d assume that what NYC bldgs shows. So no shame on BHS. Don’t know why you say basement is not habitable. Looks like pretty big windows to be and a bath downstairs.
Perhaps shame on you that need to consume so much space just because might have company once in awhile. How green is that?

  2. “It would be awesome if the kitchen still has the original cupboards.”

And the original no counters too, right?

People just prepared things in the air back then, yeah?

Just kidding; I know they did it on tables.

  3. It’s definitely plenty of space for a couple, but add a couple of kidlets and it’s not so comfortable. In my next life, I’ll have an empty closet to stare at when I need to relax.

  4. Wow, this is gorgeous. And with a garage. And the original pass-through with the old sinks. It’s not as big as a two-family, and they need to price accordingly.

It would be awesome if the kitchen still has the original cupboards. Or did they rip out and replace with something junky?

  5. Things are so relative. This house feels big to me cause I’ve been living in a 550 foot floor thru for 12 years now. We have no kids, so this seems like plenty of room even with guests.

  6. I remember this house, it looks very charming, needs some work (the kitchen is toast, and I have a feeling once you get into the plumbing and electricity, your budget will double.)

We’re looking for a “house forever” at this point, so we need a bit more breathing room just in case the in-laws or friends come to visit, or we adopt a child.
