Banning kids in bars — it’s not just for Park Slope any more. Hot Bird in Clinton Hill, a staple for the stroller set because of its outdoor space, has nixed children altogether and posted a sign that says “Children are not allowed,” said The New York Post.
“Kids shouldn’t be running around where people are trying to drink and hook up,” the paper quoted one patron, Sophia Black, 27, as saying. The bar made the move after being “swamped” by families, said the Post. “There was a time when there were too many people bringing small children here,” said a bartender. “It became an issue. So we put up the sign.”
Is it just us or does it seem like more neighborhoods have Park Slope levels of children and strollers lately?
Brooklyn Pub Bans Kids After Being Swamped by Families [NY Post]
A long time ago, I read an article on a pedophile who loved going to bars where they admit children.
He can have his drinks and enjoy watching the kids while their parents get intoxicated.
I’m really not sure I would bring my kids to a bar. A play ground you might notice a man without children spying on the kids.
BUT in a BAR? No freaking way.
So parents can’t bring their kids to bars because there might be pedophiles there. What about the subway? Or the supermarket? Can we bring them there? Americans are weird.
You guys should just re-read the original post by pete. It says “ban adults with children.” Reading comprehension. I am addressing this specific point. Perhaps you should stick with the script too.
There are indeed health and safety reasons for banning children from places where alcohol is served. How often have you heard parents say, “I just took my eyes of him/her for a minute?” Picture the scene: the parents are distracted, and their child wanders away and sits down right in the bath of an adult who is slightly unsteady on his/her feet, and whose reflexes are not as quick as they would be if he/she was 100% sober. Another scene: a kid reaches for a glass while his/her parents are distracted and takes a swig of whatever is in there. Maybe they thought it was apple juice. Maybe the kid is just curious. Whatever the scenario, the end result is the same: the kid is howling and parents are threatening to sue everyone from the owners to the bartenders to the busboy to the Men In Black. I don’t see why the owner of a bar and their employees should run the risk of losing their livelihoods because parents don’t want to pay for a babysitter, and believe that children belong absolutely everywhere. They don’t belong everywhere.
Even dumber response. 1. Where do you see a ban on “adults with kids”? It’s a ban on “children” 2. It says “Health and safety” if you actually read – meaning maybe children shouldn’t be around drunk people in bars.
Dogs aren’t allowed in establishments that prepare food for health reasons. Not the same.
Why wouldn’t they be allowed?
Exactly.
I wonder if Tower18 means the park on 5th Avenue in front of the Old Stone House? The entire park has been taken over and the childless have been banished.
