What’s the latest around North Flatbush Avenue? Lots. The North Flatbush Avenue BID is expected to bring its Capital Streetscape Project presentation before the City Design Commission sometime this fall. The plan includes curb “bump-outs,” or “neckdowns,” to reduce the crossing distance and allow pedestrians to cross safely at busy intersections. Meanwhile, 25 additional bike racks were installed on the avenue this summer, and a new signal light will be installed at the Carlton Avenue triangle at Park Place and Flatbush Avenue. There’s also been a push to install a new stop sign at the corner of Vanderbilt Avenue and Prospect Place. The Parks Department will be planting approximately 11 new trees on the avenue and replacing seven trees that have been removed. If they don’t go in this fall, planting will be moved back to spring. Finally, the North Flatbush Avenue BID is asking for submissions of graphic designs for their banners that hang from the lamp posts throughout the BID district. The selected designer will receive a check in the amount of $500 and the chance to have their own design seen throughout the community. The deadline is Friday, December 9th. For the complete RFP, contact info@nfbid.com with “RFP” in the subject line.
