Tomorrow’s a big day in the southeastern corner of Clinton Hill. As The Local reported earlier this week, there will be a public lease-signing ceremony for the Greene Hill Food Co-op on Saturday at 10 a.m. at its new home at 18-24 Putnam Avenue (at Downing Street). Co-op members approved the new location at a meeting back in July.

  1. Complaining that it is far away from YOU, or what you consider the center of the neighborhood/universe, is silly. Had it been located near BAM, it would be very far away from the people who live, say, on Franklin Avenue, who also need food. PSFC doesn’t work–geographically, logistically–for everyone, and it doesn’t matter much whether you live 1.1 or 2.1 miles from it.

The name Greene Hill was always pretty dumb, but who cares? If it’s a good outfit, and fits your needs, join; if it’s too cumbersome, don’t.

  2. I hear you bklybpr–what I would say is that it still is a joint neighborhood venture and you guys on that side of the hood got the less ideal location. but imagine if you were hoping to use the Park Slope Food Co-op and you lived on say 13th Street and 8th Ave in the Slope–same neighborhood technically but much farther away than this location from Fort Greene. No location would please everybody anyway.

  3. is it, though, “logistically easier” to wait on a C train that never comes when you can just take the R down to union? my point is, for years this was heralded as a joint neighborhood initiative. so it’s a bit disappointing to watch it find its home in south eastern clinton hill, much closer to crown heights or bed stuy than fort greene proper. and i understand the rent consideration; i’m just speaking in ideals…

  4. zinka–I do know where the Park slope one is and those are the distances that Googlemaps gave me. Anyway, its kind of silly to argue about this. If its just as easy to get to the Park Slope one then you have two options. Nobody anywhere around here had any options for something like this.
