A Brooklynian commenter wondered what was to become of the storefront at 7th Avenue and 9th Street (the old Second Helpings spot at 448 9th) and was pointed to this discussion started by a possible Park Slope restaurant owner. This nameless proprietor took to the Brooklynian boards for ideas for a grab-and-go food spot to open on 7th Avenue. There have been plenty of impassioned responses, so far the leading contenders are a salad bar, dumplings, and BBQ. There’s no confirmation this will be opening in the Second Helpings spot, though. Thoughts for a 7th Avenue grab and go spot? GMAP

  1. There used to be an Italian take out place on 7th Ave between 9th and 10th streets, that was pretty good and seemed busy, I heard it closed due to a landlord tenant dispute. It lasted about a year. I vote for Italian.

  2. Must say I kind of agree with 11217’s original post.

And I’d take it up a few notches. Seems like you’re totally half-assing everything over there. Linking to real estate listings was enough to keep things exciting in 2008.

But IMHO you should be plowing some of your ad revenue back into content if you want to keep us all coming back. Pretty much anything worth reading has to be created by users for free. (And the restaurant reviews weren’t even taking reviews for weeks). And we get all these filler posts like “I was walking yesterday and I noticed there’s a new dunkin’ donuts coming to [GMAP location]…what do y’all think?”

If the whole point is just to pop ads and advertise BS imperial ventures such as the flea and the marketplace, then just go for it.

  3. A salad bar would be nice indeed. What kind of ‘only salad bar” now exist, either as one-off locals places (not necessarily in NYC) or nationally in a few places?

Agree with one commenter about the appeal of a salad lunch.

  4. Sure, it’s speculation, but no need to take it so seriously. In regards to whether or not this is a ‘possible troll’ they also reached out through OTBKB (http://onlytheblogknowsbrooklyn.com/2010/12/07/what-kind-of-take-out-food-would-you-like-to-see-in-slope/) and as I recall many commenters here are always lamenting that Park Slope business owners never bother to ask whether the neighborhood needs more Mexican food or not.
