“Ratner must have you on retainer…”
It only took 17 posts for someone to say it! I won the office pool!
Wow- coming from the biggest yuppie snob on this board, you have really lost all sense. Ratner must have you on retainer and now you are sounder shriller and more desperate by the minute.
“Now most of you pompous, elitist, a-holes transplants would not know anything of “Brooklyn lore and mystic” because you are not from here and neither understand our history nor possess our pride or passion for this great borough! ”
Coming from one of the most pompous, elitist a**holes on the blog I found that quite funny. Many of us may be transplants but we chose Brooklyn because we loved it. You are here by accident of birth. And frankly, if you care so much about pride and passion you are so ready to sell it out to a basketball team, and a less than first rate one at that.THousands of Brooklynites, native or not, are not willing to have just anything shoved down our throats just so you can have expensive fun in your skybox and your moneyed friends have expensive places to live.
You keep claiming the Brooklyn wants the Nets and then you compare them with the Magnificent Yankees- you have got to be kidding. The Nets will never become part of Brooklyn lore and history the way the Yankees have in the Bronx and NYC. They were born in the Bronx, and have been the quintessential NYC team since forever. The names of all the great ballplayers who were on the team- their history is immense. Thee Mets, the Knicks- great teams tho they are, don’t hold the same place in NYC hearts. ANd you think the Nets can compare?? The only thing the Nets coming to Brooklyn is about is money. Now money may be your deity, but there’s a lot more to life than that.
You’ve used the same arguments over and over about all Brooklyn wanting them Nets- now’s the time to prove it. Show us the polls and numbers. Put your money where your mouth is.
“The Nets will destroy the low-rise livable character of Brooklyn.”
Brooklyn will not be destroyed! Why the defeatist attitude? Where’s the Brooklyn resilience, fortitude and pride? Your attitude and mentality is so Un-Brooklyn like! What happened to Brooklyn after the massive loss of factory and manufacturing jobs? Was Brooklyn destroyed? What happened to Brooklyn after the deterioration of its shipping and port business? Was Brooklyn destroyed? What happened to Brooklyn after Robert Moses built highways across the borough, displacing thousands of families and cutting neighborhoods in half? Did we crumble? Do you not know anything about Brooklyn, its history and the character of its people? Brooklyn was once entirely comprised of farmland. Did it not change? Where are the horse drawn carriages, the cobble stone streets and the trolleys? But now for some stupid reason you think that the present snapshot of Brooklyn is how the borough should remain forever? Get real.
Do you honestly think that Brooklyn is going to stay the way it is for the next 300 years? No evolution? No development? No progress? Are you really that naive? Downtown Brooklyn given it’s proximity to Manhattan, excellent transportation and growing business district is the logical location for high density development. If not here then where? East New York or Brownsville? Anon, what a foolish little boy or girl you are.
CHP- Does George Steinbrenner live in the Bronx? Does Brian Cashman live in the Bronx? Does Derek Jeter live in the Bronx? The answer is clearly no but still the vast majority of residents (not everyone) support the Yankees and the team’s location in the borough. Love you to death but your argument is not based on sound rationale. Lastly, what about the jobs that the arena will create? Yes, low paying but jobs nonetheless. Unless you yuppie snobs are paying someone’s rent or supporting their families, don’t pass judgment on what they do for a living. Please don’t go there……
BrownBomber, are you Bruce Ratner? You seem very invested in helping with his greedy plan. BTW, I’m a Brooklynite and I don’t want the Nets … so why are you speaking for me?
“I have friends who are executives in MLB, NBA and the NFL and across the board they all agree that a basketball and/or hockey franchise in Brooklyn will be a goldmine! Not only for the team but also for the respective league too. David Sterns is licking his chops on the move and Gary Bettman is surely hoping that the Devils will follow. Anon, go back to playing chess or double dutch, you obviously know nothing about sports or the business of sports. In ten years, Ratner will double the market value of the Nets precisely because the team is located in Brooklyn!!!”
Ok, from this one can infer the following:
Team – will make big bucks – they don’t live in Brooklyn
League – will make big bucks – they don’t live in Brooklyn, either
Owners – will make big bucks – they SURE don’t live in Brooklyn
Executives – will make big bucks – one or two may live in Brooklyn
And this helps us here in Brooklyn how?
Only a fool would think he is getting objective talk from those executives. Personally I don’t give a damn about what the Nets will be worth in 2 years, 5 year or 10. The goldmine will be for them, not for the public. Wow, you’re one impressive guy. Delusional, schizophrenic, ignorant AND callous. Don’t bring up Brooklyn pride and how the Nets will support it- We can very easily see what you’re really interested in. And it ain’t Brooklyn.
“The only reason the Nets are coming to Brooklyn is because Ratner’s ego demands he own a team and he wants it here.”
Anon, you are the clueless one. I have friends who are executives in MLB, NBA and the NFL and across the board they all agree that a basketball and/or hockey franchise in Brooklyn will be a goldmine! Not only for the team but also for the respective league too. David Sterns is licking his chops on the move and Gary Bettman is surely hoping that the Devils will follow. Anon, go back to playing chess or double dutch, you obviously know nothing about sports or the business of sports. In ten years, Ratner will double the market value of the Nets precisely because the team is located in Brooklyn!!!
People who sit around watching other people play sports generally love their cars. I’ll be expecting an exponential rise in traffic.
And all those services that cater to sports fans. Fast food. More fast food. A little more of that fast food please. Madison Square Garden, eat your heart out. BK’s gonna beat you in heart disease per square foot before you can say “burp”.
Man, all that garbage too.
I’m not bourgeouis. I can’t even f-in spell it. I’m broke. I ride a bike. I teach.
I’m dreading the sports fans.
ps. I don’t think ratner is an ego maniac. He’s a smart businessman who’s duped/bought a lot of politicians. I think he really does want to make money. And he will.
