A French wine bar serving small plates hopes to open in the old Celestino space at 562 Halsey Street in the next month or so, the owner told us Monday night. It will be called Stuy Restaurant and serve salads, panini sandwiches and cheese plates.

The owner is French and also operates Cafe Lafayette and a wine store in Fort Greene. The owner and general manager, who is a partner in the Fort Greene restaurant, applied to Community Board 3 last night for a letter of support for a transfer of the location’s liquor license. (The vote was 24 yes and 10 no, with one abstention.) The venue seats about 21 and plans to be open from 10 am to 2 am seven days a week.

Previous plans with the owner of Fort Greene’s Pink Teacup fell through. Celestino closed about a year ago.

The photo above was sent to us by a tipster. Below, the storefront a year ago. GMAP

  1. With Casablanca, Lunatico, Khemistry, Saraghina all opened in the last eight months; and Beso’s bar (which always seems more popular that the restaurant), Therapy, Peaches’s bar right there, too, another restaurant would have been better in this space. But hopefully the salads and paninis aren’t just bar food.

Not a weekend goes by that I don’t miss Celestino!
