A popular German restaurant is expanding on a well-trafficked stretch of Fort Greene.

Details remain scarce about what is exactly replacing Lean Crust, a pizza place at 737 Fulton Street. But what we do know is that the owners of Black Forest, which has a location next door at 735 Fulton Street, are behind whatever is being planned.

Two of the owners of Black Forest, Tobias Holler and Lisa Maria Holler, applied for a liquor license in June 2021 (Ayana Holler, a third owner, is not listed on the application). Approval of the license is still pending.

When reached by e-mail, Tobias Holler said it would be a separate entity but they were not ready to reveal the concept. He added that “it will be super fun and a great addition to the block!”

No signage has been installed at the storefront, whose windows have been covered with brown paper and graffitied, obscuring work occurring inside, for a few weeks.

Black Forest arrived in Fort Greene in 2013, replacing a former medical office that had been there since 2002. Popular and busy, especially during soccer matches, it is known for its casual atmosphere, packed seating and large beers. The restaurant opened a second location at 181 Smith Street in Cobble Hill in 2017.
