Met Supermarket 205 Smith St Brooklyn

Good news for folks who live in Boerum Hill. Looks like the former Met Foods at 205 Smith Street is going to become another supermarket, according to a Brownstoner reader who spoke to a construction worker at the site.

Building plans filed last year reveal the owner is adding a second floor to the building, and both stories will be stores.

Jackson Group, Aurora Capital Associates and ACHS Management bought the building for $18,500,000 in 2014. At the time, they said they planned to demolish the building.

A rendering posted on the construction fence, above, shows a simple two-story building with large windows on both floors. Thanks to our tipster for the photos.

This particular Met was known for being unusually “grimy,” as a commenter put it — it reeked of mice and sometimes sold expired goods, a resident told Brownstoner. It wasn’t particularly affordable but was the only full-line grocery store in the immediate area.

Hopefully whatever replaces it will be cleaner, with better prices and better quality meat and produce.

  1. The market always smelled.
have heard that there is a ground water spring under the building that kept the basement damp and smelly.
hope the new owners address the smell issue before they bring in another food market.

  2. Same syndrome recently in Clinton Hill; the Key Food on Lafayette, which was reasonably affordable, closed this year. A couple of months ago, a new Key Food opened in a new building on Myrtle at Hall…and its prices for many items are far higher than the same items cost at the now-closed Key Food.
