Downtown Retail Doings
There are two bits of news today about Downtown Brooklyn retail. First off, sources tell NY1 that the city is considering a number of bids for the use of part of the Municipal Building at 210 Joralemon, “including a high-end furniture store and an upscale supermarket.” (No Apple store rumors???) Second, The Daily News has an update on the market that’s launching at the Albee Square site on the Fulton Mall, which is going to to be called Dekalb Market and involve vendors selling their wares out of shipping containers. According to the story, the market will include a small farm so chefs who set up shop can incorporate what’s grown into what they’re selling. A beer garden and a performance space are also planned.

LOL, great idea…. now that is cool ML, once again you have the idea of the day!!!
I guess selling ipads out of shipping containers is out of the question?
Trolley, and they don’t ‘move into space’ they create very new very special space you been to GM Plaza store?
because they’d NEVER go into Fulton Street, NEVER wft?
and their is not 20,000 sf available, and it is not a good 24/7 location, and not visible from cars, and W people are afraid of it, and it is most expensive retail in BKLYN
ALL the major nationals have fully mapped BKLYLN, to be sure
fulton, LML (laughing mad loud) w people what will you think of next?
There are plenty of large ground level footprints on Fulton Street, all those bigger stores go back deep and have a TON of space, why not move into one of them?
anything upscale there would be perfect.
> Apple has not been drawn to Brooklyn, something doesn’t click with them
Since every Apple customer in Brooklyn is willing to travel to Manhattan to conduct their business, or buy online, why should they bother?
Spring Street is a build in an old structure, something they don’t seem to favor much anymore.
Brooklyn is extraordinarily hard to find good space in for large retailers, few choices. This is something most of us are unaware of. Try to find 5000 sf in Park Slope.
Steve Jobs nixed a FULLY EXECUTED lease on 34th Street, so Real Estate group awful nervous. What we think they could or could not have done by now is not relevent. They are coming to BK, question of question of when.
And a 24/7 store located by ten subway lines, the LIRR, Ft. Greene, Slope, Boerum Hill and Prospects is NOT a weaker location than the nighttime invisible joralemon/court. Come on…. molto obvioso anyway, i have the information triangle at BAM also good, and possible Walentas site….
blofeld, what are you talking about? What does Spring Street have to do with it?
There are Apple Stores in Manhattan uptown and downtown and there stores all over the suburbs from Hackensack to White Plains.
Apple has been opening stores in the metro area for a long time. How many have they opened so far in Brooklyn? Zero.
So I repeat, Apple has not been drawn to Brooklyn, something doesn’t click with them. I don’t know what it is. If they had wanted to do so, they could have opened a couple of stores here by now.
