There are two bits of news today about Downtown Brooklyn retail. First off, sources tell NY1 that the city is considering a number of bids for the use of part of the Municipal Building at 210 Joralemon, “including a high-end furniture store and an upscale supermarket.” (No Apple store rumors???) Second, The Daily News has an update on the market that’s launching at the Albee Square site on the Fulton Mall, which is going to to be called Dekalb Market and involve vendors selling their wares out of shipping containers. According to the story, the market will include a small farm so chefs who set up shop can incorporate what’s grown into what they’re selling. A beer garden and a performance space are also planned.

i know the trends in DTB better than anyone actually….i am part of them and help create them

you create them? :-/ and lol at your constant use of “w people” lol. oh just call them moonfaces like i do! normal “w” people dont suck the dick of steve jobs…

    *rob*

  2. > Steve Jobs… has shot himself in the foot many times over marketing

    Fair enough, however:

    AAPL market cap = $310.87B
    MSFT market cap = $220.56B

I’d say that foot has healed nicely over the years.

  3. They’re going to need to be in the dense downtown area near businesses, enough residents, other retail and most importantly subway lines. The SoHo store is barely near major car traffic so I’ll discount that. Based on the scale of BKLN, I can’t see Apple building an UWS or MPa size store, it’s going to be more modest, think SoHo. They won’t touch Atlantic Yards if they’re not going to consider Fulton, exact same demo. They could always tear down the Macy’s parking lot and build something new.

  4. they seem to know who to sell hardware and have a majority share of creative user market, killing microsoft there

different company, expensive equipment, cool users, design pros etc.

anyway, they do what they do with their stores and it works

grand strategy aside, they know how to sell phones and laptops and large format screens that is for sure

    microsoft sells software

  5. blofield- I’ll stand by what I said- BTW- i SAID Apple, NOT Steve Jobs.He is brilliant in the hardware/software stuff but he has shot himself in the foot many times over marketing. How else do you think Windows wound up with something like 95% of the computer market?
