All that’s known for sure is that biz was not open last night, and no one’s picking up the phone. The restaurant opened just last September. GMAP
Stop with ‘the rent’ is too high – I know everyone loves to hate a LL but rent is FAR from the highest expense that a restaurant faces and since the rent here was just negotiated, there must have been some other aspect of the business model that failed.
Priced the same as the Grocery or Saul but with food quality, service and ambiance of a Buttermilk or Frankies. Hence, everybody went somewhere else.
this very likely an “all of the above” – such as rent is high, too much competition, not enough working capital, and So So operator
gee, that paint job sure didn’t hold up well….
But, in its final years, Cafe on Clinton closed and reopened a couple of times and may have had different owners at the end. So, while it may have succeeded in this location for many years, it was clearly struggling in the years before it shut down.
And, dave may be correct that “The Rent Is Too Damn High”.
No idea on the rent, but, in a neighborhood with no shortage of very good options, it was quite expensive for what you got.
The rent couldnt be too high since they just negotiated the lease last summer.
