Is it time to strike one off the list of the bazillion or so eateries that incorporate some version of “Brooklyn” into their names? Cobble Hill blog is reporting via a tipster that Breuckelen, the restaurant on Clinton Street in Cobble Hill, has closed. Yesterday a reader dropped us a line saying the same thing. All that’s known for sure is that biz was not open last night, and no one’s picking up the phone. The restaurant opened just last September. GMAP
They had pretty good food, but it far too expensive – they also were just a tad frosty, I went twice and the staff seemed more concerned with their friends than providing a welcoming neighborhood feel – the chef/owner had the same reaction. Not saying they were rude, they just didn’t go the extra mile in creating a community feel. Plus did I mention the prices were far too high. Finally, you notice everyone posting said they went once or twice in the past nine months – by missing the little things shows they didn’t create a loyal following…
I went to Cafe on Clinton all the time (loved the lobster special). It was friendly and neigborhoody and not too pricey. I never once went to the Breuckelen. I heard the food was nothing special and one look at the menu turned me off because of the prices. There are lots of options for better food around here, so you have to be special to justify such a high tab.
It’s probably safe to read “taking a breather” as pretty much the same as “closed for renovations” meaning likely closed permanently.
There is a sign on the door that says they are taking a breather — so maybe it’s too soon to say they’re closed.
we ate there pretty often but the tables werejammedinextremelyclosetoyourneighbor.
I dont get it: most nights you could not even get a table. They certainly made enough $ to cover the rent. Must be some other reason…

Verandah Cafe?
Ted and Honey is doing really well and is super-crowded on sunny days and weekends. Any chance they could expand into the next door space?
