Today the Museum of the City of New York uploaded lots and lots of historical photos of New York City to its website. Other blogs have started combing through this stellar collection, and we did the best we could searching through the 1,421 (!) shots of old-time Brooklyn. We couldn’t pick just one, so here are ten favorites.

  1. The Prospect Park circle at Coney Island Avenue looks exactly the same. But 130 Buckingham Rd (shown with fascinating already-dated stuffy interiors circa 1920s) was demolished in recent years so that Church Avenue crap emporium Bobby’s could expand. (No shot of the house’s exterior, alas.) There’s polo and sheep in Prospect Park, and a “slave kitchen” of the Lotts in Flatbush…since their rights & repro allows bloggage use, I shall post some soon.

  2. This collection is AWESOME! Like having a banquet laid out! Wow.
The resolution is great, especially when you use the little magnifier. I love the guy on the street wearing a derby and scratching his behind, somewhere among the first dozen shots.

  3. I recognized Willow Place, the Masonic Temple, Montgomery Place, Cathedral Prep, and, of course, Maple II (probably my favorite block in PLG). So glad that these buildings are still around, and sad that so many others are not. This is going to be fun to browse for a while!
