As the Wall Street Journal noted, a prankster has been altering subway signs to say “Breuckelen” rather than “Brooklyn.” The MTA was not amused: This sign appears to have been defaced by vandals, a spokesman for the MTA said in a statement about a sign in the 59th street station. This is a waste of NYC transit resources.

  1. On one hand, I found myself being mildly annoyed–figures it’s some hipster on the G line who mistakenly thinks he’s clever. On the other hand, what’s the harm? No one but a tourist would get confused by this, and it’s not as if a tourist would ever wander into that part of L.I.C.

  2. i find that several of the G train stations are full of decay which i kinda like. brings back memories of NYC back in the day. the Broadway stop on the G line is really decrepid.

  3. If you’re hosting visitors from out of town who want to see “gritty New York,” the Chambers JMZ supposedly is the only vestige left subway-wise. Always been curious if that’s really true.
