The Speakeasy, a restaurant and bar that opened in 2007 on the corner of Waverly and Greene, has announced that it’s no longer in business with a message posted in the window. A reader who let us know about the closing said he wasn’t going to be shedding any tears over the closing. Do other folks who live in Clinton Hill feel the same? We’re definitely interested in finding out which neighboring establishment mentioned in the sign is going to be taking over the space. GMAP
The Speakeasy had mediocre food and indifferent service and made no effort to improve. I hear the owner of Fiore in Williamsburg will open up an Italian restaurant there now. That’s OK I guess but with Vini e Oili and Dino’s nearby (not to mention Graziella’s and il Porto nearby, another Italian restaurant would not have been my first choice. A Grey Dog cafe would have been nice!
The Speakeasy wasn’t very good but whoever said we need another Putnam’s needs their head examined. Putnam’s is the most boring, by the book pub I’ve even seen. Can everyplace in Brooklyn please not look exactly the same? And don’t even get me started on the clientele of Putnam’s.
Ok, off my soapbox. I’m not sure a restaurant works in the Speakeasy space. Maybe a bakery? Butcher shop?
