The NYSDEC released a progress report on the cleanup of a 1.1-acre brownfield site in Bushwick, 353 McKibbon Street, bounded by Boerum and Bogart streets. The site housed a chemical works factory from 1907 to 1951. It has sat empty since the early ’90s. (Bushwick BK has a few interesting shots poking around the site recently.) So far NYSDEC excavated 800 tons of contaminated soil and replaced it with 4,850 tons of clean fill. A fence was put up to prevent illegal dumping, soil vapor testing began on-site, and groundwater monitoring has been implemented. Now the NYSDEC must review a draft of the work done and maintenance still needed. If the review checks out, the site will be deemed fit for redevelopment. GMAP
