jstireshop42011.jpgLast week Fort Greene-Clinton Hill Patch reported that the DOB had shut down F+S Tires, which has been on the corner of Fulton and South Oxford for 26 years, because it didn’t have an appropriate Certificate of Occupancy and had racked up around $25,000 in fines. Today Councilwoman Tish James sent out a press release saying saying she was in support of F+S’s owners, who “arrived before the recent renaissance” in the area and are now “struggling for survival amid specialty food shops, real estate offices and boutiques.” A hearing about the violations is scheduled for the middle of next month. 1. NOOOOOOO. This place is great. I was just there with a friend and we couldn’t believe that is was still here and now this? How can this be, what is Fort Greene going to become, hopefully not Boerum Hill or GOD FORBID, Park Slope.

  2. DIBS: I think we’ve seen a few massive LANDMARKED buildings in a very sorry AND DANGEROUS state of repair

I tried to get a tire fixed on Saturday and were looking for these guys, wondering what happened. I will miss them. I am with Dibs, I have a building on my block about 9 months from becoming a pile of bricks — abandoned and in a dangerous state. What are the priorities of the DOB?

  3. Nothing personal to the owners, but I’m kind of glad about this. A tire shop has no business on a busy, walkable street and bus route. The cars being serviced double parked a lot on a very busy block, blocking buses and delaying their riders, and contributed to a huge amount of congestion. There are more appropriate places for these businesses. This is why we have zoning.

  4. Tish James is not gunning for Quinn’s job as she terms out of City Council this year. I suspect she has her eyes on Ed Towns’ Congressional seat.

Why all the hate for Tish? I think she’s done a pretty good job balancing the interests of old and new residents. And she did not support Atlantic Yards.

Now Al Vann, there’s a useless Council member.
