A little birdie passed along a rumor to us that the old Miracle Grill Spot at 7th Avenue and 3rd Street may be destined to become Chipotle Burritos. That storefront has been sitting around empty for almost a year now, so it would be great to see something coming in. Anyone else have any supporting evidence?

  1. – bright and clean
    – fresh tasting
    – quick affordable grab & go (hospital crowd, schools)
    – easy to dine in with kids who like eating with their hands

It’ll do well here, but would have preferred Baja Fresh.

  2. Also, people get too bent out of shape about a few chains. This is a terrible economy. If someone wants to come in and spend 15-20K a month renting this space, we should be thankful at this point.

Between 7th Avenue, 5th Avenue, Flatbush Avenue and parts of 6th, Park Slope has miles and miles of retail options just within its own borders. To expect that this will be a chain-free zone in 2010 is not very realistic, if you ask me.

And the thing is MORE people than not actually enjoy chains. You have to realize that the brownstoner crowd is a very small subset of people but America (and NYC as evidenced by Manhattan) loves chain stores.

  3. I don’t eat Chipotle, but I don’t think this would be a terrible thing and I actually think it will be highly successful. They have an awful nice outdoor eating area there, which has been depressing to see go unused for 2 years now.

Got to face the facts, folks…7th Avenue rents are outrageous. I chains coming in to gobble up some of these spaces, and at this point this particular stretch from 3rd street to about 7th or 8th Street needs some serious help (although there is something new going into the old Firefly spot a couple blocks away too).

I know people who really love Chipotle and it certainly seems to be a good choice for the family friendly option as well as the constant foot traffic along this block up and back from the park. People will come pick up some Chipotle and take it up to Prospect Park. Good for hospital crowd as well, as others have said.

  4. I actually like Chipotles and agree with Etson – smart option for the hospital and school crowd. Also much rather have a Chipotle’s than a BK etc
Yes the landlords on 7th avenue are nutso – they ask insane rents and that’s why so many places have gone under in the past 2-3 years
    sad really
