Uh oh….Calexico at 88 5th Avenue in Park Slope has been seized. Looks like there are no hopes of it coming back, considering “For Rent” signs are up on all the windows. (Here’s Park Slope noticed it too, and confirmed that it’s closed for good.) Sad to see it go? GMAP

  1. is the the one on the corner of 5th and lincoln or garfield or something? if so, i ate there once and my margarita tasted SOAPY 🙁 the food was fine tho

  2. i lived a block away when i first moved here in 2000 when 5th ave wasn’t quite yet considered ‘park slope’ and also have fond memories of the place. but like LS it probably has more to do with the time and place more than the food.

  3. I think it’s a pretty good story for something she banged out on her office computer in the middle of the afternoon, in a reflective mood.

    Plus, is not NYC life full of such small moments? The pizza place on 7th where I ate my first New Year’s Eve here was my Calexico.

    I’ve lived thru two similar periods in my own life, can definitely relate to those kinds of attachments…
