garden
The rain this week hasn’t helped the progress in the garden. Over the past couple of days though, our contractor was able to smooth out the soil and lay out the bluestone patio while bringing in the sod and the lattice fence. Hope it clears up soon!

  1. As I pointed out in my previous comment mylar balloons would turn the garden into a “fun-den” for children (they love these kind of balloons because helium helps them float in the air). It wouldn’t have to take up the whole garden because there could be areas without balloons reserved for the adults (perhaps other decorations such as a cupid fountain would be more appropriate for these parts). Just don’t forget to tie the balloons to a post or tree or else they will float away and the children can no longer play with them, and they will wind up crying instead of having fun which would defeat the purpose of providing them with the balloons. If you can’t find the mylar ones they will still enjoy the regular kind, but preferably with helium if you can find it, because they don’t like the ones that don’t float as much.

  2. There’s a utility closet on the back wall of the house. We were going to build storage into the bench near the front of the yard but everything was getting too expensive. There’s also a large storage area in the hallway just inside the door where we’ll be able to keep a lot of plates, cutlery, toys, whatever.

  3. Jeez i didnt realize you ladies would get your panties all tied up in a bunch over a sandbox. Forget all references to sandbox. Replace sandbox with ‘play area’. ‘Play area’ could be child’s table for arts and crafts or general play space to romp, roll and have fun.

getoverit, i was speaking about storage. I figured in the design and redesign, it might have been addressed. Maybe i missed it.

I have a beautiful well designed backyard. The yard was designed by a retired couple with no children/grandchidren and it suited their needs/desires. There a lovely small tool shed that was part of the orginal design. I just wish they would have incorporated a bit more storage into their design. But then again, the design fit the needs of the owners at the time.

Isnt it better to plan for these things before you realize that you need them later? The whole hindsight is 20/20 thing.

If Brownstoner has already addressed storage, then its a non issue for them. As others plan the backyard make-overs. Storage is something that you should consider.
