Eric Adams Verizon Fios Brooklyn Heights

Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams will be hosting a public forum on Verizon FiOS’ Brooklyn rollout Tuesday, allowing residents and business owners to air their concerns in regards to the service.

In announcing the forum, Adams emphasized Brooklyn’s need for expanded high-speed telecommunications service, and said city franchises should be held accountable to agreements. A June audit found Verizon had failed to meet its promise to make FiOS available to all New Yorkers.

The forum will be co-hosted by advocacy group coalition Waiting4FiOS. It will take place November 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the community room at the Brooklyn Borough Hall.

  1. This has to be a joke. We have any number of blocks above and below us which have fios. Several years ago, some Verizon workmen told us it should be here within 6 months. Needless to say, nothing happend and I see no reason to think that all of this meeting and fussing will make any difference. Perhaps fining Verizon handsomely for not living up to its contract with the city might help, but I would not hold my breath.

  3. Hope it’ll make a difference. The north side of my block has FIOS, but my side doesn’t, and Verizon tells me there is no schedule for installation. For years I’ve been stuck with a Verizon landline phone that drops calls every fifteen minutes or so; the line just goes dead. Multiple Verizon techs have informed me that there’s probably a crack in my phone line under Grand Avenue (which they clearly aren’t going to dig up for my sake). Most recently Verizon Tech Support stated that “since you have copper wire, we can’t do anything to help you, as we’re not maintaining that any more.” Maybe not, but they sure don’t have a problem billing me for phone service. Speed and connectivity on my so-called high speed Verizon internet service is also a joke. I don’t know if FIOS is as fabulous as it’s supposed to be, but anything would be better than this.
