According to a tipster, there was a shooting a little while ago near the intersection of Fulton Street and Greene Avenue in Fort Greene. There are currently several police vehicles on the scene and the Fulton is shut down. If anyone’s nearby, please send a photo and some more details. The shooting comes on the heels of the discovery of human remains around Fort Greene Park.
Update: 5 shot in a barbershop on Fulton, shooter possibly on the loose. Police advising people to stay inside.
Update: NYT Cityroom blog has the story here. Four people shot in the hair salon pictured below right; at least one dead.
Update: NBC has a story here.
It was about as irritating as 11217 pointing out that crime is lower in other countries. NYC has about the lowest crime rate of any major city in the U.S.
Yes, we did find your comment about loving it or leaving it irritating. It’s our country, too, and we’re not going anywhere.
Dave,
Wait for it………..
I also was commenting (not attacking) on BooklynGreene’s post where she mentions that:
“The economic problems have been impacting many communities of color for much longer and causing hardships, stresses and trauma.”
Well…some people after learning about a multiple shooting within our midst (and a murder) don’t really find it an appropriate time to be making jokes.
I don’t think any of the stories has yet mentioned what color the shooter was FGCHill. And people think my “Love It or Leave It joke was irritating!!!!????
I love America, but don’t love violence and murder.
Your comment Dave is rather heartless, per usual.
I don’t love this.
This is truly terrible, but I do not buy into the economy causing persons of color to commit crimes like this. Thousands of Wall Streeters and bank personnel have lost their jobs and are struggling with the possibility of losing their homes, but they haven’t started shooting and robbing people. It is a cheap excuse to think that shooting five people has been influenced by the weak dollar.
“Love it or leave it”
Dave,
How about “Love it and improve it” instead?
I grow weary of the best of all possible worlds fatalism.
