According to a tipster, there was a shooting a little while ago near the intersection of Fulton Street and Greene Avenue in Fort Greene. There are currently several police vehicles on the scene and the Fulton is shut down. If anyone’s nearby, please send a photo and some more details. The shooting comes on the heels of the discovery of human remains around Fort Greene Park.
Update: 5 shot in a barbershop on Fulton, shooter possibly on the loose. Police advising people to stay inside.

Nothing was at all confirmed that there was anything of the sort initially Leo. Read the first 4 posts.
On the neighborhood issue that others have posted on, it does seem that this particular precinct has had more than its fair share of crime and I believe in other posts over the past 6 months or so that there’s been an indication that the precinct is somewhat unresponsive to the “allegations.”

I was working from home today, and my babysitter was giving my toddler lunch when we heard the gunshots. My little girl put her finger near her ear and said “shhh” “shhh” like she does when she hears a siren or loud noise.
Now I’m no crime alarmist, and I don’t particularly worry for my family’s personal safety on the basis of one or a few crimes. but it saddens me that my 20 month old daughter is subjected to that sound, when all I want is her to be innocent.
So pardon me for not appreciating your particular brand of stupidity.
And I’m jst hoping that the shooter is actually caught without further bloodshed.
There is no bright side to this, I am just relieved that there was only one Shooting today and not two as originally thought.
seriously dave, get to work! Based on your average of 40 posts per day (and thats conservative), id say you have more free time on your hands than a 9 yr old during the summertime…
Thanks for coming on and adding something Leo. 11217’s comment about crime being lower in Europe was about as helpful as yours. If 11217 wants to cite the crime statistics throughout the major cities of Europe and debate the social policies behind them vs. what’s going here then I welcome the discussion. But his remark, as it stands, and his implied conclusion is pithy. So I couldn’ resist the “bumper sticker” mentality reply. Which all of you took the bait.

11217 is right on this. Our guns laws are insane. Our crime rate is far too high, in every city.
I love America. I have never bought into the idea that to protest the status quo is somehow unpatriotic.

Does it seem like there has been a surge in violent crimes in this area lately?
And why on earth is that crackdealer and murderer “Ben” glorified on the recently restored mural on Myrtle Avenue? The ignorance of whoever painted it and whoever leaves candles beneath it pisses me off whenever I walk by it.
I honestly don’t know if the benefits of living here outweigh the risks.
