denton. If you need to check Audi’s computer – you can use ross-tech VAG-COM. I have one at home and will be more then happy to do it for you. I am sure BMW has similar thing. But in general I agree with you. cars are too computerized. Many times dealer just updates software. (ECU update, talegate upgrade, MMI upgrade). Crazy. I am not really looking forward to see one of these computers like advanced key to stop working while I am driving.
Denton – I have to agree with you. BMW’s age with a patina that most other cars never do… – I will say the old car is 8 years old next month and has 83K miles on it and truthfully still runs beautifully. We just need to get the pesky shocks done and we will be back to having a smooth ride. Even the inside of the car looks brand new still
No Gem, Lee Brothers–2 Chinese guys, in their 30s I guess. The shop is on Smith St. just before the F train emerges. I have recommended them to a zillion people and everyone is happy with them.

Problem is these new cars are nothing but rolling computers, unfortunately, and if you don’t have make-specific expensive diagnostic tools it’s hard. Of course that wouldn’t apply to purely mechanical items like shocks.

Lorenzutti has most of those diagnostic toys plus they really know cars – fixed the 84 VW better than the VW place in Bay Ridge & a load cheaper.
